If you haven't been to Benalmadena before, perhaps this information will help you to make the most of your stay. If you are a regular visitor, there maybe something here that you have missed
Our apartments are situated in Benalmadena Costa. This area extends down to the sea and the beach. Head up the hill you will come to Arroyo de la Miel, the older part of the town where you will find the railway station (Malaga to Fuengirola), shopping areas and have more chance of finding tapas bars in the alleyways and back streets. Most of the banks are in this part of town.
Bonanza Square is the hub of the immediate area with many bars and restaurants to suit most tastes.
Benalmadena Pueblo is the oldest white washed village in the area. Just a short bus ride away, it really is worth a visit. The ten minute bus ride takes you past Tivoli World Amusement Park, a nine hole (but challenging) golf course, public driving range, bowling green and the bullring. Still the administrative centre of Benalmadena Costa and Arroyo de la Miel, the narrow streets host many bars and restaurants. The church offers a great view of the coast.
The main market is held on Friday mornings in the car park of Tivoli World, behind the railway station. There is a smaller version at the same time on the Feria Ground just behind Parque de Paloma. A second-hand market is on the Feria ground on a Wednesday morning.
Parque de Paloma. The town's pride and joy. It is less than ten years old, situated on the road down towards the beach, the park is running alive with rabbits, chickens and peacocks. The lake is full of terrapins, ducks and geese who will all enjoy your stale bread. There are three bars in the park that stay open late in the summer.
Many travel agents provide coach trips going out of town. Seville, Granada and Cordoba are each about two and a half hours away.
Car hire here is quite cheap and generally decent cars are provided. Breakdown cover is the norm but check. Police are getting hotter on drink driving, seat belts and speed limits. Carry your licence and passport.
Gibraltar. Again travel agents provide trips. Some of these pick up along the coast so it can be a while before you get going. Cheap for perfume, cigarettes and alcohol but stick to the Duty Free Allowances of 200 cigs and just one bottle for over 16's
Aquapark on the bypass at Torremolinos or the bypass at Mijas Costa (Fuengirola) for slides watershutes etc. Take your own picnic if you want but no glass allowed. Taxi is best but check price before you get in. Torremolinos should be about €10.
Crocodile Park at Torremolinos next to Aquapark. Consider doing these two on the same day.
Zoo in the centre of Fuengirola. Nice clean well presented zoo. Open late evenings in the summer. Use the train from Arroyo to get there.
Selwo Marine, on the far side of paloma Park. Dolphin and sealion shows, plus penguins, other marine life, and a parrot show provide a good afternoon's entertainment.
Tivoli World Amusement Park. In Arroyo for dodgems, go karts and the usual rides and sideshows. Flamenco dancers etc. Find Tivoli by looking for the Cable car that runs up from the Tivoli car park.
The cable car takes you to the top of the local mountain where there is a display of birds of prey. Check out the times for this. There are several walks laid out up there to get the views of the whole of the coast and on a good day, Africa.
Benalmadena Marina. Quite a few shops down there, lots of bars and restaurants. Take a boat trip to Torremolinos or Fuengirola or just go out to see the dolphins.
Sea Life on the marina has a good display of all types of marine life.
24 hours Square situated behind McDonalds at the entrance to the marina, this is the centre for late night bars especially at weekends.
Sports. The nearest 18 hole golf courses are Torrequebrada and the Parador (near the airport). There is a nice little par 3 municiple 9 hole course in Benalmadena. At the same location is the driving range and a bowling green. All equipment can be hired there. Good restaurants there too.
So much to do, so little time.
This is just a quick guide as to whats going on. Please feel free to call in the office for a chat about anything else you would like to do on your holiday.
